Installing Brackets on Debian 8

Written on September 15, 2016

While watching a tutorial online on how to program WordPress plugins, the tutorial strongly suggested that I use Brackets.

The site led me to brackets.io where I downloaded the Debian package for the app.

My problem began when I ran dpkg -i [package].

Debian spat out that it couldn’t install the package because Brackets, so it removed the package when I typed the usual apt-get -f install.

I went to Google to look up what the conversation about this problem is. I found this thread, which is a total mess for some reason.

The only way of installing Brackets on Debian is to install an old library of libgcrypt11.

Scroll down to the Architecture list. Select yours. Mine was on a i386 virtual machine.

Download the package from there. Install it with dpkg -i.

Take me home.
